In recent years, the conversation surrounding mental health has gained momentum and moved from the shadows into the spotlight. While this shift is undoubtedly positive, one significant demographic has often been overlooked: men.
On Wednesday this week, Channel 4’s Packed Lunch devoted the entire programme to men’s health … and featured the amazing work that campaigning charities, like The Lions Barber Collective, are doing in breaking down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and creating a supportive environment where men feel comfortable talking about their mental health challenges.
The Lions Barber Collective is an international group of barbers who have undergone training in how to recognise symptoms of mental ill health in clients and signpost them to relevant support services. The group helps to raise awareness of mental illness and aims to prevent suicide by creating training that enables barbers to recognise, talk and listen out for symptoms of depression.
